About Brian Kazy
Councilman Brian Kazy represents Ward 13, which spans from the Lakewood border near West 117th Street to the boundary of Brook Park, and includes the West Side neighborhoods of Bellaire-Puritas, Puritas-Longmead and Rockport which together make up part of West Park.
He was recently appointed Chair of the National League of Cities (NLC) 2025 Public Safety and Crime Prevention Federal Advocacy Committee. In this leadership role, he will also serve a one-year term on the NLC Board of Directors.
Councilman Kazy is focused on enhancing streets, parks, and public spaces throughout the ward. He is committed to keeping residents informed and involved, regularly organizing community meetings to hear concerns and share updates. He frequently goes door-to-door to speak with residents directly, often joined by representatives from key city departments such as Public Safety and Building & Housing.
Councilman Kazy also brings residents together through popular community events, including his annual summer concert series, which provides free, family-friendly entertainment in neighborhood parks, and his annual Haunted Hollow, a well-loved Halloween attraction that draws families from across the ward.
In addition, Councilman Kazy organized the City of Cleveland’s first-ever outdoor summer basketball league for youth ages 10–25. What made the league especially impactful was its unique focus on personal growth: before stepping onto the court, all participants completed educational sessions led by elders from the faith-based community. These classes emphasized essential life skills—including sportsmanship, conflict resolution, politeness, and the importance of community engagement—ensuring the program supported both athletic and personal development.
A former Cuyahoga County probation officer who worked with both juveniles and adults, Kazy has been active in Democratic politics and community organizations for decades. His political involvement includes serving as a precinct committeeman, ward leader, and member of the Cuyahoga County Democratic Party’s executive board.
A lifelong Clevelander, he graduated from St. Edward High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Bowling Green State University.
Councilman Kazy and his wife, Dawn, are the proud parents of five children. He has served on Cleveland City Council since 2015.
