Council Meeting Highlights

City Council met in person this evening in Council Chambers, and the meeting was also live-streamed. A quick reminder that the Council website and email addresses now end in .gov, so please update your contacts. The next Council meeting will be on March 2nd. Budget hearings continue this week. Here are a few highlights from today’s meeting:

ODOT Funding for Cleveland: Council approved six pieces of legislation that were discharged from two and three committees that would normally have reviewed them, due to the administration’s request for expedited action to avoid losing $9 million in state funding. The legislation was released from the Municipal Services & Properties; Development, Planning and Sustainability; and Transportation & Mobility committees.

Ord. No. 35-2026 - Giving consent to Director of Transportation of the State of Ohio (ODOT) to rehabilitate the Old Detroit Road Bridge.

Ord. No. 36-2026 - Giving consent to ODOT to construct multi-modal transportation enhancements along East 66th Street from Chester Avenue to Superior Avenue. Authorizing payment to the State for the City’s share of the improvement.

Ord. No. 71-2026 - Giving consent to ODOT to construct the improvement to CUY Memorial Bridges Loop Trail Project. Authorizing payment to the State for the City’s share of the improvement.

Ord. No. 90-2026 - Giving consent to ODOT to repair and resurface S. Waterloo Road from East 140th Street to East 152nd Street. Authorizing payment to the State for the City’s share of the improvement.

Ord. No. 91-2026 - Giving consent to ODOT to construct the improvement of resurfacing Van Aken Boulevard. Authorizing payment to the State for the City’s share of the improvement.

Ord. No. 122-2026 - Giving consent to ODOT  to construct the CUY Cleveland Downtown Connector Trail 1 Project. Authorizing an agreement with the Village of Newburgh Heights and authorizing payment to the State for the City’s share of the improvement.

New Lorain Antiques District: Council passed legislation, sponsored by Council members Austin Davis, Nikki Hudson and former Councilmember Jenny Spencer, to create a new design review district known as “Lorain Antiques Design Review District” between West 83rd St and West 61st Pl to the east. The aim is to grant oversight to the Far West Design Review & City Planning Commission for all exterior changes and demolitions along the commercial corridors. To protect and preserve the important urban fabric closest to the transit corridors. Ord. No. 1520-2025

Introduced
Legislation was introduced to hire experts to carry out public improvements at Erie Street Cemetery and the Highland Park Cemetery Mausoleum, including designing, building, rehabilitating, renovating, replacing, and making other site improvements. Ord. No. 231-2026
