Councilman Brian Kazy Elected to the National League of Cities Board of Directors

Dec 15, 2025

Councilman Brian Kazy was elected to the National League of Cities (NLC) Board of Directors by NLC’s membership at the organization’s 2025 City Summit in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Councilman Kazy was elected to a 2 year term and will provide strategic direction and guidance for NLC’s federal advocacy, governance and membership activities.

“Serving on NLC’s Board of Directors is important to me—and to my community—because it connects local voices directly to national leadership and decision-making at a time when cities are on the front lines of nearly every major challenge," said Councilman Kazy. "This role represents a commitment to service beyond city limits. It allows me to bring the real, day-to-day experiences of residents, local officials, and frontline municipal staff into national conversations that shape policy, funding priorities, and advocacy. It is an opportunity to both learn from peers across the country and to help guide NLC’s direction so it remains practical, inclusive, and responsive to the realities cities face.

"My election to the Board means having a seat at the table where national strategies are formed," Councilman Kazy continued. "It ensures our perspectives—whether related to infrastructure, housing, public safety, economic development, or equity—are reflected in NLC’s advocacy and programming. This role strengthens my ability to bring back resources, best practices, partnerships, and innovative solutions that directly benefit residents and improve local outcomes.”

As the largest and most representative organization for cities, their elected leaders and municipal staff, NLC advocates for local government priorities in Washington by building strong federal-local partnerships. NLC Board members are selected by a 15-member nominating committee and are confirmed by a vote from NLC’s membership at the organization’s annual business meeting held in November. As a member of the board, Kazy’s leadership skills will only elevate NLC and help to guide NLC’s strategic direction.

“The Board of Directors creates the vision and direction for our more than 19,000 cities, towns and villages,” said National League of Cities President Kevin Kramer, Councilmember, Louisville, Kentucky. “I am ready to dive into the details with this extraordinary group of local leaders as we support strong and thriving communities across America.”

More than 3,000 mayors, councilmembers and other delegates from nearly every state, and the District of Columbia, convened in Salt Lake City, Utah, for NLC’s annual City Summit. Local leaders remain on the frontlines of the nation’s most pressing challenges and are working hard to pioneer innovative solutions that move our cities, towns and villages forward.
